Optimizing FTTH Network Design: Area Analysis and Risk Mitigation in Dense Urban Environments
Before proceeding to the design stage, an area analysis was conducted for internal business case evaluation. The primary objectives of this analysis were to identify the optimal location for the central office and to determine the maximum lengths of the feeder layer. Adhering to the limits for parallel multi-ducts running in the same trench, the approximate locations for street cabinets were identified, and the number of parallel ducts was verified.

This analysis also included an estimation of the total volume of trenches, cables, ducts, and cabinets, which was presented in a Volume of Materials (VoM) report. The VoM report provided a comprehensive overview of the materials required for the project, ensuring accurate budgeting and resource planning.
Furthermore, several risk points related to civil works were highlighted. These included potential challenges in excavation, laying ducts in dense urban areas, and coordinating with existing underground utilities. By identifying these risks early in the planning process, the study aimed to mitigate potential issues and streamline the subsequent stages of the project.
